The dehumidifier kind of works like a window air conditioner but in reverse. So, instead of blowing cold air out into the room and the hot air outside like an air conditioner, the fan pulls the humid air through the cold evaporator coils, the cold air is then pulled through the hot condenser coils and back out into the room. For example, most humidifiers are prone to freezing up if the air temperature is less than degrees F. However, the dehumidifier motor can get hot if it lacks sufficient incoming air.


The main causes of this are a blocked air vent or a very dirty air filter. If the incoming air vent is blocked by furniture or the wall, simply move the unit. As a result, the whole kitchen becomes warm and stuffy, which makes me wonder…is this normal? Do all dehumidifiers blow out warm air ? Can’t it be just air at room temperature, as I understand that cold air will condense, which is also not good for controlling moisture. By setting the humidifier to only run when the furnace is calling, you can be reasonably sure that the hot air is blowing the moisture out of your ducts and into your home.

The takeoff duct diverts some heated air into the humidifier , where it absorbs moisture from an evaporator pad before returning to the warm air stream through the cold- air return duct and furnace.
