Primary pollutants

A secondary pollutant is not directly emitted as such, but forms when other pollutants ( primary pollutants ) react in the atmosphere. Examples of a secondary pollutant include ozone, which is formed when hydrocarbons (HC). What is primary pollution? Primary pollutants are any type of pollutant directly into the environment.


They differ from secondary pollutants because secondary pollutants must form in the atmosphere, whereas primary pollutants do not. Primary air pollutants (PAPs) are those that are emitted directly into the air from sources. Examples – Sulphur dioxide , nitrogen oxides , carbon monoxide , volatile organic matter, particulate matters, lea ammonia etc. Recent emissions control measures in the US are becoming increasingly stringent, and industries are held accountable if they exceed.
