Vehicle pollution

These materials, known as pollutants , have several bad effects on human health and the ecosystem. Future emissions reductions from trucks and other freight sources are essential for meeting air quality standards and protecting the health of those who live and work close to ports, rail yards, and freight corridors. Cars contribute only a modest amount of pollution on their own, but there are, according to Yale University, a fleet of 2million vehicles in the United States alone, making them a potent polluting force in bulk 4. The amount of greenhouse and poisonous gases released into the atmosphere endangers the environment and causes severe health effects in humans. Car pollution is one of the major causes of global warming. Greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere, which causes worldwide temperatures to rise.

Vehicle pollution

In many urban areas, motor vehicles are the single largest contributor to ground-level ozone. Ozone causes public health problems including coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and permanent lung damage, and is a major component of smog. Motor vehicles also emit other major pollutants. According to the EPA, motor vehicles collectively cause percent of carbon monoxide pollution in the U. The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) estimates that on-road vehicles cause one-third of the air pollution that produces smog in the U. Fuels are much cleaner—lead has been eliminate and sulfur levels are more than lower than they were prior to regulation.

Cars emit greenhouse gasses, such as carbon dioxide, which contribute to global warming. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency works with the Environmental Protection Agency to enforce air quality standards, and reduce motor vehicle pollution. The MPCA promotes technologies, fuels and driving habits that reduce emissions and fuel consumption for consumers and fleet operators.

Breathing in these pollutants can cause or contribute to a wide range of health problems, from heart and lung disease to neurological,. Brake dust, oil, dirt and gasoline, all play their role in pollution originating from cars. All of them can end up in the water that we drink and the air that we breathe via the runoff. Maintaining your vehicle will greatly reduce the pollution you’re producing directly. Ozone layer prevents harmful Ultra-Violet (UV) rays from reaching our atmosphere.

The UV rays can cause a host of diseases and can change the genetic make-up of living beings. If global warming is not controlle it will be difficult for plants, animals and even humans to live on planet Earth. For example, for a conventional gasoline vehicle , emissions are produced when petroleum is extracted from the groun refined to gasoline, distributed to stations, and burned in vehicles. Because those emissions come from hundreds of millions of tailpipes,.

Vehicular pollution has grown at an alarming rate due to growing urbanisation in India. The air pollution from vehicles in urban areas, particularly in big cities, has become a serious problem. Vehicle pollution is the pollution caused by the types of vehicles running on the road.

Unnecessary idling of cars , trucks, and school buses pollutes the air, wastes fuel, and causes excess engine wear. Modern vehicles do not require “warming up” in the winter, so there is no need to turn on the engine until you are ready to drive. Pollutants produced by vehicle exhausts include carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, particles, volatile organic compounds and sulfur dioxide. Hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides react with sunlight and warm temperatures to form ground-level. Another way to reduce vehicle pollution is by practicing good vehicle maintenance.

Vehicle pollution

Over time, the emission control systems degrade and pollution increases. Vehicles pollute the least amount when they are brand new. Pollution from cars comes from by-products of this combustion process (exhaust) and from evaporation of the fuel itself.

While ozone is not emitted directly from automobiles, the unstable compound is formed in the atmosphere through a complex set of chemical reactions involving hydrocarbons, oxides of nitrogen, and sunlight. The pollutants in engine emissions from vehicles or lawn equipment cause damage to lung tissue and can lead to and aggravate respiratory diseases, such as asthma. The pollution also emits greenhouse gases that cause climate change. Diesel engines are durable and efficient.
